Major Evangelistic Thrust in Moldova to Come This Fall

At the end of March, GCMM received an invitation to travel to Chișinău, the capital of Moldova. God willing, a brief visit to Moldova will take place in the next month or two to begin preliminary preparations for a nationwide media campaign.

Moldova is a small country with a population of four million. It borders Romania and Ukraine, and the Black Sea lies less than 30 kilometers away. The country gained its independence in 1991.

Moldova’s history has been deeply shaped by Soviet rule. During World War II, the Soviet Union occupied Moldova, and in 1940 it became the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. This was followed by fifty years of Russification.

The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 led to Moldova’s declaration of independence. A year later, in 1992, the Transnistrian war broke out. That war left the Transnistrian region under strong Russian influence and closely aligned with Russia as well.

Now, a new opportunity is opening. Preliminary preparations are expected to begin soon for a nationwide media campaign, with the campaign date set for the end of the year. As plans move forward, Moldova may be entering a new season of Gospel opportunity.
