Israel’s 78th Year: Now is the Time for Prayer

Israel is marking 78 years of independence during one of the most difficult periods in its modern history, amid war, terrorism, rising antisemitism, and deep uncertainty.

On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was reborn after nearly two thousand years of diaspora. For Christians around the world, the rebirth of Israel was not merely a historical event. It is a reminder of God’s faithfulness to His covenant and of the fact that the promises of the Bible have not been revoked. Spiritually, the birth of the State of Israel may also mean that we are several steps closer to the return of the King of kings. “Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” Psalm 121:4

Great Commission Media Ministries has been serving in Israel for several decades with a focus on a Gospel-centred ministry— evangelism, personal encounters, literature ministry, humanitarian aid, and prayer. GCMM continues to stand with the people of Israel during this challenging time. It is precisely in times like these that prayer, people who walk alongside others, and the hope brought by the Gospel are needed more than perhaps ever before.

The events following recent attacks have deeply impacted communities across the country. Many families are still living with trauma, loss, and uncertainty about the future. In response, GCMM has partnered with local ministries and believers to provide practical support and spiritual encouragement to those affected.

One of the newest and most important project initiatives includes distributing materials designed to help people coping with trauma and PTSD as a result of the war. These resources offer hope, healing, and biblical encouragement for individuals and families struggling through crisis. A book addressing PTSD, of which more than 100,000 copies have already been distributed in Ukraine amid bombed homes and refugee centres, has helped meet people traumatized by the war both spiritually and physically. A similar book for Israel is underway, as many Israelis are experiencing similar conditions of trauma.

Through television, digital media, and ministry partnerships, GCMM continues sharing messages of hope with audiences across Israel and beyond. Even during difficult times, opportunities remain open for people to hear the Gospel and experience God’s love.

Now more than ever, believers around the world are encouraged to pray for Israel, for peace, for protection, and for all those suffering because of war and violence.

Please continue praying:

  • for families grieving loss and trauma
  • for wisdom and protection for leaders
  • for peace in the region
  • for open hearts to the message of Jesus
  • for ministries serving those in need

As Israel marks 78 years as a nation, this is truly a time for prayer, compassion, and hope.
