Helping Egyptian Families

Saad-Yacob
An Egyptian family who needs your help to get a start towards a sustainable life

In the small rural villages of Egypt, there are no social services or educational programs for the unemployed. Poverty is the norm and opportunities are few.

Great Commission Media Ministries is reaching out to help impoverished Egyptian families develop sustainable small businesses to employ themselves and provide for their families.

GCM Ministries acts as a sort of “business angel” by supplying these poor Egyptian families with initial start-up capital, which allows them to launch their own private enterprises in order to earn a living. We are investing in the purchase of sewing machines, baking ovens and plants to help them succeed in small business as seamstresses, bakers or tree farmers.

In the initial phase of the program, 700 Christian families have been given the opportunity to rise above their poverty through their own business. This “seed capital” program provides each family with a monthly business grant of about $80 for three months followed by an evaluation that may extend their grant period for an additional three months in certain circumstances.

GCM Ministries teams in Egypt also distribute food, medicine, Christian literature and other resource materials to these needy Egyptian villagers.

The families that are being helped usually have between seven and fourteen family members. Yet it’s not unusual for them to share a house with one or two other families. Some live in filthy, unsanitary one-room apartments without furniture. Most lack the basic necessities of life.

The head of the home is often a poor sharecropper or unemployed. In the best of situations, a family might earn $75 per month; not nearly enough to cover their most basic needs—not even enough to feed their children every day. Some families have no source of regular income at all. The father or both parents may be deceased. When family members are sick, there is no money for medicine.

Your love is their miracle. Will you join GCM Ministries in sharing the love of Christ in a very practical way among the poor of Egypt?

The Bible encourages us to help those in need.

“If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.” Proverbs 21:13 (NIV)

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?’” Matthew 25:35-37 (NIV)

From Arab Emirates...

"I’m Muslim and I want to know the truth. I like everything that you offer in your webpages, it has touched my heart. My family is fanatically Islamic and everything I hear about Christians is very bad. At the time I live in Arab Emirates. I begin to know the truth from your internet pages. It’s difficult around here to get to your web pages because the government tries to prevent it. Please help me!"
